The Ministry of Commerce, in exercising the power conferred under sub-section (b) of Section 13 of the Export Import Law, issues the following notification relating to the import licensing:
The Ministry of Commerce issued Notification No.18/2015 to allow the importation of foreign wines in accordance with the wine importation procedures attached. Alcohol, beer and wine were previously limited to import but were allowed for sale in duty-free shops or under the recommendation of the Ministry Hotel and Tourism. The notification liberalizes the importation of wine to registered companies or associations that have obtained importer registration. The companies must apply for wine import registration certificate and wine import license at the Ministry of Commerce, and must have dealership from respective companies. The notification details the requirements for the application of the wine import license, such as the original proforma invoice or sale contract, wine import registration certificate and FDA recommendation. It also prescribes the rules to be followed by the importers, such as the requirement to import wine only via sea or air routes, disclosure of country of origin, will have to comply with relevant excited laws and other relevant laws and regulations.
